General Hospital Meljine: Donations, Development, and a New Hospital on the Horizon

Donations That Change the Game

General Hospital Meljine in Herceg Novi has received a valuable donation — a floor X-ray machine worth 91,000 euros, replacing the old, irreparable device. The Municipality of Herceg Novi, led by President Stevan Katić, has shown care for citizens’ health by also donating 23 air conditioners to the hospital. These investments are not just numbers but concrete proof that local government and central authorities can work together to improve the quality of healthcare services.

Healthcare System in Focus

Vojislav Šimun from the Health Institute emphasized that Meljine Hospital is of exceptional importance to Montenegro’s healthcare system, especially for the Bay of Kotor region. With about 80 medical staff, the hospital has stabilized its workforce by resolving employment uncertainties and converting contracts to permanent. Plans include opening specialist departments such as ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, and psychiatry, with eight specializations announced this year.

Big Plans for the Future

Within a credit arrangement, an investment of around 1.5 million euros is expected by the end of the year for new equipment, including a new scanner. The Municipality of Herceg Novi is financing a feasibility study for building a new Meljine hospital, responding to the need for better working conditions and a broader range of healthcare services. The director of KBC Kotor, Dr. Davor Kumburović, is proud of the hospital’s revitalization and notes it has become a symbol of the city.

The Healthcare We Deserve

This story is not just about new machines and buildings but about people who persevered through tough times and deserve better conditions. Donations, plans, and investments show that the healthcare system in Herceg Novi and Montenegro is improving. But is it enough? Will the new hospital truly revolutionize healthcare or remain just a nice story? Share your thoughts; maybe you know what the next step should be!

And hey, if you made it this far, drop a comment — do you think things are really changing, or is this just another political show?
