Osijek Man Abandons Dog Lucky Tied Outside Shelter – Fined 1000 Euros for Cruelty!

What on earth is going on, people?! Lucky, a four-year-old German Shepherd who had the misfortune of being abandoned by his owner tied to a tree outside a shelter in Osijek, has finally found a new home. But let’s rewind to the start of this drama. Lucky’s owner, a man from Osijek, was fined 1000 euros for his cruel treatment. Yes, you read that right – 1000 euros for leaving his dog tied outside a shelter and then disappearing! The Osijek municipal court found the man guilty on August 15. He left Lucky tied to a tree outside the shelter run by the Pobjede association on Nemetinska Road and never came back to pick up the dog. Although the owner claimed he couldn’t care for the dog, his behavior sparked numerous complaints from citizens. Reports said he and his common-law wife were often intoxicated, dragging the dog around, and the dog was in poor condition. While the veterinary inspector did not find neglect, the act of abandoning the dog tied outside the shelter was enough for a penalty. The shelter was full and couldn’t take Lucky immediately, but the dog was soon adopted by a new family. The court concluded that all legal conditions for the owner’s misdemeanor liability were met. It’s important to note that since 2023, the animal protection law has been tightened, and similar acts could now lead to imprisonment. This is yet another example of how irresponsible pet owners can be punished and how crucial it is for society to react to such cases. Lucky was lucky, but how many dogs aren’t?
