Fierce Reactions to Milo Lompar: Spin, Nationalism, and Student Protests Under the Spotlight

Have you heard about Milo Lompar? The man who was almost invisible in Serbia’s political life until recently is now the center of attention because of his speech at the student protest on June 28. His statements sparked a storm of reactions, especially from the Movement of Free Citizens (PSG) and the Green-Left Front (ZLF). Aleksandar Radovanović, the general secretary of PSG, didn’t hold back: Lompar, he says, spins information and denies facts so much it’s unbelievable. It’s strange, he adds, that Lompar wasn’t involved in politics before but now makes such outrageous statements.

At the protest at Slavija Square, Lompar gave a speech many called nationalist and dangerous. Rastislav Dinić from ZLF warns that many citizens didn’t even recognize the messages they heard, but they are not harmless — especially for the residents of Novi Pazar. Lompar even accused the EU of suppressing the student protests for seven months, and his speech drew reactions from European media, including the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, which wrote about the Greater Serbian nationalism taking over the student protests.

ZLF tweeted that celebrating the Kosovo myth did not unite the people of Novi Pazar and Subotica; instead, it was a fight for justice and against corruption. Lompar’s statements caused divided opinions and further heated the political atmosphere in Serbia.

If you thought student protests were just peaceful gatherings, think again. Lompar poured gasoline on the fire with his speech, and the reactions from the opposition and public show how tense the situation is. Is this the start of a new wave of nationalist outbursts or just another political game? Drop your thoughts — maybe you have the answer to this madness!
