Dutch prisons are full; 4,000 convicts wait for space.

In the Netherlands, more than 4,000 convicts have not been sent to serve their sentences due to a lack of space in prisons, according to the Dutch portal “EnVandag”. Offenders in 1,158 criminal cases with victims are still at large. The State Secretary for Justice and Security, Ingrit Kunradi, emphasized that the situation is serious because there are no available spaces in prisons. Many convicts are classified as “self-reporters” because they have to wait to begin serving their sentences. Most of them have been sentenced.
