Hellish Border Jams: Trucks Wait for Hours, Tourists Wonder When the Chaos Ends!

Welcome to the Serbian summer border adventure! The tourist season is in full swing, and the borders are ready to greet you… with hours of waiting and kilometer-long lines of trucks. At the Horgoš 1 border crossing, while tourists still enjoy a relatively smooth entry, behind the scenes a real drama unfolds – truck queues stretching up to 5 kilometers wait to exit the country, with drivers spending hours in line. Is this the start of chaos or just the prelude to the summer season?

At Horgoš, although there are no major passenger jams, trucks form lines up to two kilometers long, with drivers waiting several hours. The border crossing hours have been extended, but that doesn’t help speed things up. At Bajmok and Bački Vinogradi, working hours are also extended, but traffic jams persist, especially due to numerous roadworks that further slow down traffic.

The mayor of Sremska Mitrovica, Branislav Nedimović, points out that important road reconstructions are underway, but until they are finished, drivers and tourists should be prepared for delays and altered traffic regimes. The roadworks on the Jarak – Šašinac route, worth about one million dinars, are just the beginning of major changes that, hopefully, will ease traffic in the future.

But while we wait for a better tomorrow, the present is a nightmare for truck drivers and travelers. Queues stretching several kilometers, waiting for hours, all in the peak of tourist season – sounds like a recipe for disaster. While some wonder why all lanes aren’t open, others ask if they will even make it to the sea on time.

If you planned to travel across the border, maybe it’s time to consider alternative days and times. Or arm yourself with patience and good music, because you’ll need it! And if you have a hilarious border story, feel free to share it – maybe we all need a dose of humor to survive these hellish jams!
