Šumadija looked like a war zone yesterday! In the municipality of Topola, multiple fires broke out across several locations, and the wind was the worst enemy, spreading flames like it was on steroids. Firefighters were stretched to the limit with no free vehicles available, while locals fought like lions to save their homes. Fires were extinguished in Krćevac and Belosavci, but the flames consumed over 20 hectares near Kopljara. The biggest hell was in Manojlovci, where more than 30 hectares burned and eight houses had to be evacuated. In Lipovac, two old houses and auxiliary buildings were destroyed, and the fire rapidly consumed low vegetation. Dragan Jovanović, president of the Topola municipal assembly, said Šumadija hasn’t seen a day like this before. Residents organized themselves, grabbed shovels and water from wells, and alongside firefighters gave their all to stop the fiery disaster. Without their solidarity, the damage would have been immeasurable. Fires also spread to neighboring municipalities of Gornji Milanovac, Aranđelovac, and Kragujevac. Power outages hit many areas, and panic was widespread. Is this just the start of hell or can we fight this fiery catastrophe?
