Serbia is about to face a scorching heatwave like never before! Meteorologists are warning of a tropical heatwave with temperatures soaring up to 40 degrees Celsius, and that’s just the beginning of the misery. After the blazing hot days, a cold front will bring unstable weather, thunderstorms, and even possible local disasters. All this is due to the African heatwave and a heat dome looming over Europe. Amateur meteorologist Marko Čubrilo and professional Ivan Ristić warn that Thursday will bring typical summer heat, but by midweek, the real hell begins with temperatures hitting 40 degrees. “The heat dome is coming from Africa and squeezing us tighter and tighter,” says Čubrilo. Some parts of Serbia, especially the west, will see local instabilities and thunderstorms, with a stronger cooling and more frequent storms expected around June 8. But wait, there’s more! Meteorologist Ivan Ristić warns that the summer will also be marked by supercell storms, known for their destructive power and wind speeds comparable to a category three hurricane. “July will be the hottest month, and the second decade of the month the riskiest for these storms,” says Ristić. Temperatures in Spain and Portugal have already hit a record 46 degrees, while in Mostar and Herzegovina, temperatures exceeded 40 degrees, causing railway tracks to warp and complicating firefighting efforts. Serbia is right in the path of this hellish heatwave, with temperatures expected to hover between 35 and 40 degrees, accompanied by tropical nights that will further exhaust the population.
