Parliament Discussion on Pension Adjustment and Notary Fees Payment

The Croatian Parliament will discuss next week laws concerning pension adjustment and payment of notary fees. Proposed changes include a new formula for pension adjustment twice a year, recognition of service for mothers for each born or adopted child for 12 months, introduction of an annual supplement called the 13th pension, and removal of penalties for early retirement at age 70. The law also allows pensioners to work with payment of 50% of the pension and foresees increases in minimum and disability pensions. Additionally, a law on notary fees is proposed, which sets conditions for exemption from payment based on income and property of the party and their family members. The Parliament will also discuss amendments to the law on the bar and appointments to the management boards of regulatory agencies. The work week will end with a discussion on the report of the State Audit Office.

Political Perspectives:

Left: Left-leaning outlets emphasize the social benefits of the pension reform, highlighting the increased support for mothers, the introduction of the 13th pension as a form of social justice, and the removal of penalties for early retirement as positive steps towards protecting vulnerable groups. They may also stress the importance of transparency and fairness in the notary fees law to protect low-income citizens.

Center: Center-leaning media report the facts of the legislative proposals neutrally, focusing on the technical details of the pension adjustment formula, the legal framework for notary fees, and the procedural aspects of the parliamentary discussions. They provide balanced coverage without strong ideological framing.

Right: Right-leaning sources may focus on the fiscal responsibility aspects, questioning the sustainability of increased pension benefits and additional social spending. They might emphasize the need for reforms that encourage work and economic growth, and scrutinize the impact of the new laws on the business environment, including the notary fees and legal profession regulations.
