Patriarch Porfirije in Bratunac: Serbian People Must Overcome Divisions and Live in Unity!

Have you ever felt that the Serbian people are divided? Today, Patriarch Porfirije delivered a speech in Bratunac that will make you think! During the liturgy at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Patriarch clearly stated: “The Serbian people are strongest when they breathe, think, and work as one!”

Overcoming Divisions – An Urgent Call

The Patriarch emphasized that there should be no discord among Serbs, and differences must be harmonized. “Whenever we are divided, whether due to external pressures or internal flaws like pride and greed, we lose as a people,” he warned.

Faith as the Foundation

Faith and love for one’s neighbor are, according to the Patriarch, the pillars of Serbian identity. “Faith has shaped our people and should be the foundation and framework of our lives,” he said. He stressed that we should not fear living according to the Gospel and that no other ideology should be more important than faith.

A Message of Forgiveness and Brotherhood

“When Serbs recognize each other as brothers, they will be able to respectfully honor other peoples,” the Patriarch said. “Love for your neighbor must not turn into its opposite. Let us forgive one another!”

Remembering the Sufferings

The liturgy was attended by high officials from Republika Srpska and Serbia, including Milorad Dodik and Miloš Vučević. After the liturgy, a procession went to the Bratunac cemetery where a memorial service was held for Serbs who suffered in the Middle Podrinje 33 years ago on Petrovdan, when 69 captured soldiers and civilians were killed, and ten are still missing.

Why Is This Important?

This speech is not just a religious message but a political appeal for unity and overcoming conflicts that have left deep wounds in the region. Patriarch Porfirije clearly states that unity is key to the future of the Serbian people.

Will Serbs finally listen to this message? Or will we continue to divide and lose?

Share your thoughts because this is not just a story about faith but about the fate of a people. Maybe it’s time for all of us to reflect and finally start breathing as one!
