A Serbian man couldn’t get his Russian pension due to sanctions.

A pensioner in Serbia who receives a Russian pension was unable to withdraw money because a bank in Serbia returned the payment to the sender. Although payment transactions with Russia have not been halted, banks in Serbia are applying international sanctions against certain Russian banks and entities. The National Bank of Serbia states that Serbia has not imposed sanctions on Russia, but banks independently assess risks and can apply sanctions. The issue may have arisen because the bank through which the pensioner received the payment was dealing with Russian banks that are under new sanctions.
