Peru’s President Doubles Salary Despite Record Low Public Support

Drama in Peru! President Dina Boluarte, with public support plummeting to a shocking 2%, has decided to double her own salary. Yes, you read that right – while the people turn their backs on her, she’s boosting her paycheck to around $10,000 a month, nearly 35 times the country’s minimum wage! Economist Raul Perez Rejes noted that before the raise, her salary was the second lowest among 12 Latin American countries, but does that justify this kind of arrogance? Absolutely not! Citizens are furious, and social media is ablaze with criticism. Some even call the president “deaf to the voice of the people.” In Arequipa, her car was pelted with eggs and stones! Boluarte took office in December last year after the then-president Pedro Castillo was removed. Her administration is already mired in controversies, from undeclared luxury gifts to mysterious absences. Is this just another example of a political elite flaunting power while the people suffer? Read on, join the chatter, and tell us what you think – scandal or just another political power play?
