Petar Petković on Belgrade-Priština Dialogue: Preševo and Bujanovac Are Not Topics

The chief Serbian negotiator in the Brussels dialogue, Petar Petković, stated that Preševo and Bujanovac are not topics of the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština. After a meeting with the EU Special Representative for the dialogue, Peter Sorensen, he emphasized that the dialogue topics are Kosovo and Metohija, the position of the Serbian people, and the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities. Petković highlighted that daily terror and persecution of Serbs in Kosovo hinder normalization of relations and called on the EU to take responsibility and encourage the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities. He also handed over a list of escalatory actions by Priština in the last three months. Other articles, such as the report on the attack on a law faculty professor, are unrelated to this topic.

Political Perspectives:

Left: Left-leaning outlets tend to emphasize the human rights issues and the persecution of the Serbian minority in Kosovo, highlighting the need for EU intervention and protection of minority rights. They may also stress the importance of dialogue and peaceful resolution but criticize any attempts to expand the dialogue topics beyond Kosovo and Metohija.

Center: Centrist sources focus on the official statements and diplomatic efforts, presenting the dialogue as a complex negotiation process. They report on the positions of both sides, emphasizing the EU’s role as mediator and the importance of sticking to agreed topics like Kosovo and Metohija, while noting the challenges posed by incidents and provocations.

Right: Right-leaning media emphasize the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, strongly rejecting any inclusion of Preševo and Bujanovac in the dialogue. They highlight the threats and attacks on Serbs in Kosovo, portraying the Serbian government and negotiators as defenders of national interests and calling for a firm stance against Priština’s provocations.
