Petković and Sorensen: Belgrade Priština Dialogue on the Brink of Explosion!

Just when you thought the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština was dead, Petar Petković and Peter Sorensen show up to remind us the situation is even worse than we thought! The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petković, and the EU Special Envoy for the Belgrade-Priština dialogue, Peter Sorensen, met to discuss continuing the dialogue at a technical level. But don’t expect a fairy tale about peace and love – Petković made it clear that the position of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija is getting tougher due to escalating moves by Priština. Yes, you read that right – the situation is so tense that peace on the ground is hanging by a thread that could snap any moment.

Petković highlighted on his X (formerly Twitter) account that continuing the dialogue is necessary for normalizing relations and de-escalating tensions. But is this just lip service or real will? Vučić and Sorensen reportedly had a substantive conversation about preserving peace in the Western Balkans, but the reality on the ground looks far from peaceful.

To make matters worse, Priština keeps up the pressure and accusations. Kurti and his police, according to Petković, are terrorists who persecute the Serbian people daily in Kosovo. Kurti even demanded the handover of Milan Radoičić and others suspected of the 2023 Banjska attack, accusing Serbia of organizing a terrorist group. Of course, Kurti doesn’t miss a chance to link the accused to Aleksandar Vučić, claiming these people were trained in Serbia and carried out aggression against Kosovo. This is a real political soap opera with thriller elements, but with real human lives at stake.

While political leaders bicker, ordinary people in Kosovo and Metohija live in fear and uncertainty. Will the dialogue truly bring peace, or is it just another show for the public? If you thought this was the end, think again – the situation is far from resolved, and tensions are rising.
