In the heart of southwestern Serbia, in the village of Velika Župa, lies a true summer oasis – Petrovac beach. This natural gem is not just a spot to cool off during the scorching July heat, but also a legendary diving platform with a cliff that has gathered the best divers from all over the former Yugoslavia for decades.
Petrovac beach is famous for its clean water and shade, but also for the adrenaline rush from high cliff dives. The diving platform has been maintained since the 1990s, with the first recorded jumps in 1995. Since then, Petrovac has become a prestigious venue for high diving competitions, comparable to famous places like Mostar, Višegrad, Belgrade, and Užice.
Rina Samed Jusović, president of the Velika Župa local community, points out that divers from Podgorica are regular guests and often win at these competitions. The idea for the bathing spot came from local resident Paja Potežica, who, together with a group of enthusiasts, transformed the neglected beach into a popular gathering place for thousands of visitors and competitors.
Duška Bajić from the organizing committee emphasizes that Petrovac stands shoulder to shoulder with Ada Ciganlija in Belgrade and other renowned high diving spots. Dženan Duraković, who visits every year from Germany, describes the cliff dives as an invaluable feeling, with water depth below the platform safely between 10 and 15 meters.
Petrovac is not just a beach; it is a symbol of community, freedom, and friendship. Summer days on the Lim river in Velika Župa have a special flavor, and this natural stage for brave dives proves that the most beautiful stories are born where people believe in their homeland.
If you’re up for adventure and refreshment, Petrovac is a place you can’t miss. And if you’ve been there, you know it’s more than a beach – it’s the spirit of community and adrenaline. Who knows, maybe you’ll be the next champion off the diving platform!
