Drunk, Unregistered, and Uninsured: Zagreb Police Arrest Driver with 2.13 Promille on Highway!
Imagine this: a driver on the A4 highway near Sesvete, at noon, driving a car that is neither registered nor insured, with a blood alcohol level of 2.13 promille! Yes, you read that right – over two promille! The police immediately stopped him and took him off the road. The driver was first taken to emergency care due to severe intoxication and then to a sobering-up unit.
What happened?
A 56-year-old man was driving an unregistered and uninsured car with Zagreb plates on Thursday, July 10. The police stopped him during a traffic check, and the test showed a shocking 2.13 promille of alcohol in his blood. The vehicle was not registered, and the insurance policy was not renewed. Because of this, the driver committed multiple traffic violations.
Fines and consequences
After the alcohol wore off, the driver was brought before the municipal court in Sesvete. The police proposed a fine and a three-month ban on driving category B vehicles. The police also urged drivers not to get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol and to regularly check vehicle registration and insurance, as ignoring basic traffic rules endangers the safety of all road users.
Why does this matter?
These cases are not just statistics – they are road hazards! Drivers who drive drunk, unregistered, and uninsured not only break the law but endanger the lives of others. Playing with luck on the road can have tragic consequences. The police are here to protect us, but we must also be responsible.
Is this an isolated case?
Unfortunately, no. Similar incidents happen in other cities. For example, in downtown Zagreb, a 44-year-old man with 1.38 promille was stopped after continuing to drive despite having his driver’s license suspended for 12 hours. He was later fined and banned from driving for three months.
In Montenegro, a Belgrade man was fined 2,000 euros and banned from driving for four months for driving under the influence of cocaine and marijuana. Also, in Baran, a driver was sentenced to 40 days in jail for driving under the influence of narcotics.
What can we learn?
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, without registration and insurance, is not just a violation – it is a potential killer on the road. The police do their job, but responsibility lies with each of us. Next time you get behind the wheel, ask yourself: is it worth the risk?
So, dear readers, if you ever thought driving drunk was just a little adventure, think again! Drop a comment if you’ve had similar experiences or think the penalties aren’t harsh enough. Or just crack a joke – maybe laughter will save us from road tragedies!
