Police Blockades and Arrests: Fight for Order or Repression?

When students and citizens decide to block traffic, the police don’t just sit around! In recent nights across Belgrade and Serbia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested a whopping 98 people for blockades and disturbing public order. Yes, you read that right – 19 people in one night, and 79 in another! Most were detained for misdemeanors, but a few are suspected of criminal offenses. Police had to act against blockades at key spots like the Terazije tunnel, with incidents reported in Valjevo, Kraljevo, Čačak, Niš, Novi Pazar, and Novi Sad. Four police officers were injured, and one official vehicle was damaged. Prime Minister Vučić urged citizens not to endanger safety and to refrain from illegal activities.
