Police Officers Caught in Cigarette Smuggling Scandal: Sky Chat Exposes Crime Network

Imagine this – police officers, the very people who are supposed to uphold the law, are deeply involved in cigarette smuggling! Yes, you read that right. The Special State Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against businessman Aleksandar Mijajlović and seven other members of his criminal organization, including four police officers. How were they caught? Thanks to Sky chat messages that exposed their shady dealings with untaxed cigarettes from the free customs zone of the Port of Bar.

This criminal group operated for months, smuggling huge quantities of cigarettes, which they then hid and sold across Montenegro. Police officers like Dragan Bačković, Milenko Mića Rabrenović, Radoje Rabrenović, and some unidentified members used their official positions to inform accomplices about police actions and help conceal the cigarettes. Bačković even transmitted confidential information via a phone app, enabling criminals to avoid police patrols and safely stash cigarettes in Nikšić.

But wait, there’s more! These officers were also involved in laundering money earned from smuggling. Bačković, for example, transferred tens of thousands of euros across the border without declaring the money to authorities. All this while ordinary citizens watched cluelessly, believing the police were doing their job.

This scandal casts a dark shadow over the Police Administration and shows just how deeply crime can be rooted in institutions meant to fight it. Is this just the tip of the iceberg? Will justice finally be served, or will everything be swept under the rug as usual?

If you have thoughts on this or maybe know more details, jump into the conversation. Who knows, maybe your story will break this vicious cycle of corruption!
