Chaos on the Streets of Serbia: Police Report 89 Unregistered Gatherings and 13 Detained!
Thought Serbia was calm? Think again! In just one day, the police recorded a staggering 89 unregistered public gatherings across the country, with 15 of them in Belgrade alone. Yes, you read that right – 89!
Around 10,000 citizens gathered nationwide, with about 2,000 in Belgrade. The police blocked 71 locations, including 14 traffic routes in Belgrade. During these protests, identities were checked, and 13 people were detained and will face misdemeanor charges.
Deputy Police Director Dejan Luković claims the situation is under absolute control but admits blockades still exist, such as in Zemun with eight people and Novi Sad with about a hundred.
54 Police Officers Injured, One Seriously!
No wonder the police are stretched thin – 54 officers were injured over the week, with 49 injured on June 28 alone. One officer sustained serious injuries, while the rest suffered minor wounds.
Luković denies excessive use of force allegations, stating that police used force lawfully and only when necessary. “We will be extremely tolerant but must protect the safety of all citizens and the property of the Republic of Serbia,” he said.
Fake Police Uniforms and Death Threats!
To make matters worse, misinformation spread that some individuals wore police uniforms, which Luković strongly denied. Death threats against police appeared on social media, which is completely unacceptable. The police will monitor the situation daily and be ready to respond wherever needed.
Violent Behavior and Criminal Charges!
An incident in Zemun on July 1, when a car tried to break through a blockade, led to criminal charges against three individuals for violent behavior. The police identified and detained them, and the prosecution continues its work.
Police Won’t Back Down: “We Won’t Allow Road Blockades!”
Luković clearly stated that the police will not allow road blockades and urged citizens not to attack police and to abandon blockades. “The police are moral, equipped, and motivated to carry out all tasks,” he said.
Conclusion: Serbia on the Brink of Chaos or Just Strict Control?
While some see the police as a repressive force stifling freedom of assembly, others praise them as the only protection of order and safety. With over 10,000 people on the streets, dozens of injured officers, and dozens detained, the situation is tense.
Is this the start of a new wave of protests or just temporary turbulence? One thing is certain – Serbia cannot ignore these events. What do you think? Has the police overstepped, or is this the only way to maintain order? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, and remember – there’s no room for silence in this story!
Police and Riots in Belgrade: 48 Officers Injured and 77 Detained!
Let’s recall the events of June 29, when 48 police officers were injured during riots in Belgrade, and 77 people were detained, including a minor. The police filed 35 criminal charges and 22 requests for misdemeanor proceedings.
According to Dejan Luković, protest participants were equipped with masks, batons, smoke bombs, and other means to attack police. Despite warnings to disperse peacefully, they fiercely attacked officers. The police initially exercised restraint but later used force in accordance with the law.
This event clearly shows how high tensions are and how difficult it is to maintain order under such circumstances.
What’s Happening in Serbia?
On one side, massive protests and road blockades; on the other, police struggling to maintain order and safety. Injured officers, detained demonstrators, death threats, and fake uniforms – all point to a deep crisis and division in society.
Is it time for dialogue or for even stricter measures? Leave your comment and join the discussion – because this story concerns not only the authorities and police but all of us living in Serbia.
