Pope Leo XIV’s Dramatic Call for Peace in Gaza
Pope Leo XIV couldn’t stay silent while blood and tears flow in Gaza. During his traditional Sunday prayer at Castel Gandolfo near Rome, he raised his voice again against the war madness hitting civilians and holy places.
On July 17, the Israeli military launched an airstrike on the Catholic Church of the Holy Family in Gaza, killing three people. The Pope expressed deep sorrow over this attack and condemned it as yet another brutal military strike on civilians and places of worship in the area.
“This is yet another proof that war chooses no victims, and holy places must not be targets,” the Pope said, calling for an immediate ceasefire and peaceful resolution of the conflict.
A Call to the International Community: Respect Human Rights and International Law
The Pope appealed to the international community to respect humanitarian law, protect civilians, and refrain from collective punishment, indiscriminate use of force, and forced displacement of populations.
In a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Pope emphasized the need to protect holy sites of all religions and called for joint efforts to leave violence and hatred behind.
The World Can’t Take More Wars
Pope Leo XIV clearly stated that the world can no longer tolerate wars and that it’s time to lay down arms and establish dialogue. His words echo as a plea for reason in a time when violence and conflicts never cease.
