Gudelj Family Receives Church Honor in Spain: Glory, Football, and Faith in Andalusia

Picture this: The Serbian Orthodox Church in Andalusia, Spain, on July 12th – the day of the feast of the holy apostles Peter and Paul. But this isn’t just any celebration. It’s an event that gathered believers from all over Spain and abroad, with a special honor given by the presence of Serbia’s ambassador to Spain, Irena Šarac. And who were the feast’s godparents? The Gudelj family from Seville, led by Nebojša Gudelj, a former footballer, who received the archbishop’s certificate – a church honor not handed out every day!

Clergy from various parts of Europe, including the Western European Bishop Justin and the Toplica Bishop Petar, served the holy liturgy in Fuengirola. Alongside them were the abbot of the Tuman Monastery, Archimandrite Dimitrije, and priests from Norway and Slovenia.

This feast is not just a religious event but a chance for gathering, prayer, and strengthening the spiritual community of the Serbian Orthodox Church on Andalusian soil. The Gudelj family was recognized for their effort and contribution, and Nebojša expressed gratitude to everyone who helped make the celebration magnificent.

This is a story about faith, unity, and pride of the Serbian diaspora in Spain. And if you thought the Gudelj family was only known for football, think again – now they’re church heroes too!
