Hell on the Krupačke Stijene Landfill: Fire Still Smoldering, No Solutions in Sight!
Does anyone in Sarajevo even care about the Krupačke Stijene waste landfill? The fire that broke out Monday night is still smoldering, and firefighters are fighting it like an endless battle. The Territorial Firefighting Units of East Sarajevo have brought the fire under control, but in some spots, the fire still burns beneath the surface.
Workers have been dumping earth with trucks to cover the inner parts of the fire, but that’s just a temporary fix. The landfill is close to populated areas of Krupac and Vojkovići, which worries locals even more.
This isn’t the first time the landfill caught fire, and the question is how long it will keep smoldering if no permanent solution is found. Will anyone finally take responsibility, or will we keep watching trash and fires pile up?
