Call for Fire Damage Claims in Kragujevac: Who’s Really Losing Out?

Fire in Kragujevac and the Damage Claim Chaos: Who’s Really Getting Help?

In June and July this year, Kragujevac was hit by a devastating fire that destroyed many family homes. Now comes what many have been waiting for – the official call to submit damage claims. But will citizens really get help, or will it all just stay on paper?

Where and How to Submit Damage Claims?

Citizens of Kragujevac who suffered damage to their residential properties due to the fire can submit claims until August 11. Claims can be submitted at the city administration’s circular counter at Trg Slobode 3, or electronically via the city’s official website.

But beware! Claims submitted after August 11 will not be considered. So if you thought you had time, think again.

Who’s Losing Out?

Mayor Nikola Dašić visited the Domanović family from Gornje Jarušice, who lost their house and most of their belongings in the fire at the end of June. Their tragedy is not unique – many have been left homeless and are now fighting to get at least some compensation.

Is the Help Enough?

Although the city has issued a public call and formed a central commission to assess the damage, many wonder if the funds will be sufficient and if all those affected will be adequately compensated. Given the deadlines and bureaucracy, there is a justified suspicion that many will be left out.

What’s Next?

This is not just a story about a fire, but about a system that often fails when it’s needed most. Will Kragujevac manage to deal with the aftermath and help its citizens, or will it all remain just promises?

If you’re from Kragujevac or know someone affected, keep an eye on the deadlines and don’t wait until the last minute. And if you have something to say about this, feel free to share your thoughts – maybe your story will be the spark that gets things moving!
