Vacation season is in full swing, and the Preševo border looks like a movie set! Passenger cars and buses are piling up, especially those heading to Greece, a favorite destination for Serbian tourists. Morning reports say there are no long lines entering the country, but on the way out, waits can reach up to 30 minutes. People complain but also praise their chosen routes. “I didn’t wait long, this is the first time the traffic jam was smaller,” says one traveler, while another adds they wait about 20 minutes, which isn’t too bad. Foreign citizens also confirm the waits aren’t too long. But a half-hour wait on the way out is no joke.
Due to increased traffic during the summer season, authorities urge the use of alternative border crossings. AMSS advises drivers to take frequent breaks and avoid traveling during the hottest parts of the day because the temperatures are scorching. The tourist season is in full swing, and traffic on the busiest routes is heavy, with possible additional delays due to roadworks.
But here’s the real bombshell! Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dačić signed a protocol with North Macedonia to introduce an integrated border control system at the Preševo and Tabanovce crossings. This system, known as “one stop control,” means travelers will go through a single combined check, drastically speeding up border crossing and reducing wait times. Sounds like a dream, right? This move could change the game for everyone traveling through this border.
So, while jams and waits still happen, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. But will this new system really work as intended? Or will we still be standing in lines, watching the clock and praying for change? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, if you’re on the road, bring patience and a cold bottle of water. And hey, if you have a hilarious border story, share it — maybe it’ll make us all laugh while we wait!
