Did you know that this year in Podgorica, 45 children were held back from starting first grade due to speech immaturity and emotional problems? Yes, you read that right! While the world spins faster than ever, our kids are losing the race against time and technology. Modern gadgets, instead of helping, are wrecking kids’ social skills and speech. The principal of Oktoih Elementary School, Jasna Radović, reveals that the number of children whose school enrollment is postponed is rising every year. The main culprits? Emotional and social immaturity, attention and memory problems, and serious speech disorders.
Psychologist Stela Burzanović doesn’t mince words: kids today spend way too much time glued to screens, which destroys their ability to communicate and focus. Speech therapist Dušica Šćepanović adds that with timely help and treatment, children with speech issues can catch up with their peers, but parents often fail to spot the problem early. Preschool education and kindergarten are crucial for preparing kids for school, yet fewer children attend these institutions, making the problem worse.
This alarming trend demands urgent action! Parents, educators, pediatricians — everyone must be involved in early detection and treatment. If this keeps up, what’s next? A generation of kids who can’t keep up with school? Maybe it’s time to all stop and ask: where are we going wrong? What do you think about these kids being held back? Is technology really the villain, or is there more to the story? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s on which side in this school drama!
