Faculty blockades in Belgrade have become a total farce! Professor Čedomir Antić from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade doesn’t mince words and clearly states that today there are no disciplinary measures against the blockaders. But do you know what used to happen? In communist Yugoslavia, people who blocked schools and faculties were expelled from all schools! Yes, you read that right – expelled! For example, Topola Gymnasium was expelled from all schools in Belgrade, and Opatija Gymnasium from all schools in Serbia. Parents and workers had to pay the price for such behavior. Today? No punishments at all! These people are now seen as heroes, like some kind of Al Qaeda before 9/11 – doing a good thing but going too far. Professor Antić warns that this is dangerous because such behavior is not good for society.
Our state university, says Antić, has morally bankrupted. It has become an instrument in the hands of immoral authoritarian professors, administration, foreign NGOs, foundations, and political parties. The fight carried out by blockades is not in the interest of the state and nation, but certain structures that emerged during the transition.
Just imagine – blockaders used to be expelled from schools, and now they are given freedom to destroy education and are protected! Is this progress or total chaos? Professor Antić spares no criticism and clearly says this situation is alarming and will lead to a serious crisis if no action is taken.
If you still find it hard to believe, just remember how much the university has lost in reputation and how morally it has fallen. Is this the future of education? Or is it time to wake up and say – enough is enough!
What do you think? Are faculty blockades justified, or is this just another proof that our system is falling apart? Drop a comment, let’s see who’s for and who’s against this “revolution” at the faculties!
