Đakovo in Political Vacuum: Second Attempt to Constitute City Council Fails!
The city of Đakovo, with its 19 city councilors, is once again in political chaos. The second attempt to constitute the city council has failed, even though a quorum was present! Yes, you read that right – 12 out of 19 councilors were present, but the president of the city council was not elected. How is that even possible?
HDZ won eight mandates, the coalition Together Đakovo six, and the rest are distributed among SDP, independent lists, and HSP. Although HDZ is ready to form a technical minority majority, other councilors apparently do not want to cooperate. Mayor Marin Mandarić clearly stated: either constitute the council or we go to new elections!
Why does this matter? Because projects worth 1.1 million euros are now on hold. The city cannot function without a constituted council, and the citizens of Đakovo will ultimately pay the price for political games.
This political deadlock has lasted for a year, and every failure to constitute the council means delays in important investments and projects. Will politicians finally take off their gloves and start working for the good of the citizens, or will we see another round of pointless quarrels?
