Approximately 160,000 people protested in Berlin and other German cities against the opposition’s plan to limit immigration. Friedrich Merz attempted to adopt an immigration proposal in the Bundestag but did not have the majority. In Berlin, Regensburg, Kiel, and Bonn, tens of thousands of people gathered, carrying banners against cooperation with the Alternative for Germany (AfD). The protests are directed against a rightward shift. The latest public opinion polls show that two-thirds of Germans support stricter immigration rules.
