Public Tender for 5G Network in Serbia in September

The Serbian Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications (RATEL) has decided to initiate a public tender process for issuing three individual licenses for the use of radio frequency spectrum, including bands designated for the development of 5G technology. The public tender announcement is expected in September, with licenses to be issued by the end of the year. This process aligns with a new regulation that has come into effect, setting minimum conditions for license issuance. The goal is to enable the development and implementation of the 5G network in Serbia, marking an important step towards improving telecommunications infrastructure and the digital economy.

Political Perspectives:

Left: Left-leaning outlets emphasize the importance of 5G technology for social progress and digital inclusion, highlighting the need for transparent and fair public tenders to prevent monopolies and ensure equitable access to advanced telecommunications services.

Center: Center-leaning sources focus on the procedural aspects of the public tender, the regulatory framework, and the expected timeline for the issuance of 5G licenses, presenting the development as a necessary step for Serbia’s technological advancement and economic growth.

Right: Right-leaning media stress the economic benefits of 5G deployment, including attracting foreign investment and boosting national competitiveness. They may also emphasize the role of private sector efficiency and the importance of minimal government interference in the tender process.
