Record Foreign Investment Inflow in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Who Are the Key Players and What Does It Mean?

Bosnia and Herzegovina Hits Record Foreign Investment Inflow: A Whopping 1.6 Billion KM!

Did you know Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently riding an investment wave that’s turning heads? According to the latest analysis by the Council of Ministers of BiH, direct foreign investments in 2024 reached a staggering 1.6 billion convertible marks, roughly 820 million euros! That’s a jaw-dropping 24.9% increase compared to the previous year. Yes, you read that right — nearly one and a half billion marks!

Who’s throwing their money in?

The European Union (EU 27) pumped in over 51% of the total amount, meaning more than 800 million KM came from EU member states. But wait, there’s more — Russia invested about 130 million KM, Serbia around 110 million KM, and the Netherlands, Germany, Croatia, Slovenia, and the UK are also among the top investors.

In the first half of 2025, preliminary data shows a slight dip of 14.3% compared to the same period last year, but total investments still impress at around 1.1 billion KM. Croatia, Germany, and Slovenia led with the largest registered capital during this period.

Why should you care?

This record foreign investment inflow isn’t just a number on paper. It means new jobs, infrastructure development, a stronger economy, and a brighter future for BiH citizens. However, it’s not all sunshine — political instability and slow reforms could threaten this positive trend.

What do the experts say?

The Council of Ministers of BiH adopted an analysis clearly showing the country is on the right track but must continue reforms and improve the business environment to keep and grow foreign investor interest.

The bottom line

Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently a magnet for foreign investments in the region, but the big question is how long it can keep up this pace. Will political games and bureaucratic hurdles spoil this investment fairy tale? Or will BiH finally seize the opportunity and step into a bright economic future?
