Imagine this: Serbia is literally on fire! In just one day, from morning until 7 PM, a staggering 719 fires broke out across the country. Yes, you read that right – 719! Nedeljko Gagić, the head of the Fire and Rescue Department of Serbia’s Ministry of Interior, was visibly shocked. “We have never recorded such a number of fires in a single day,” he said while visiting the most critical hotspot – Prokuplje.
Everything is burning! From Šumadija, through the Rasina district, to central Serbia and the Toplica district, where the situation is most critical with 40 fires, three of which are still large and active. Kragujevac was not spared either, and firefighters are at their limits – two collapsed from exhaustion after days of intense work.
The Serbian army has joined the firefighting efforts, and all available resources are deployed. The message is clear: citizens, stop burning waste and stubble! Weather conditions are catastrophic, and every little spark can cause a fire. In June, a landfill already burned, and now the situation has escalated beyond control.
Will the night bring relief? Gagić says they will try to save what they can, but the reality is harsh. Prokuplje, Žitorađa, and other areas in the Toplica district are on the brink of disaster.
This is not just news; it’s an alarm! While we stare at our screens, Serbia is melting in flames. Will we finally grasp the seriousness of the situation, or will we wait for the fires to consume even more? If you have a funny comment or think this is exaggerated, feel free to join the conversation – maybe your joke or critique will wake someone up from apathy!
