The British automotive publication What Car conducted a reliability study on different types of cars with a sample of 30 drivers over two years. The results show that electric vehicles had the highest failure rate (16.8%), followed by diesel vehicles at 15.4%, hybrids at 14.1%, and petrol vehicles showing the highest reliability with only 10.7% reporting failures. Although electric vehicles fail more often, most of these failures (89%) can be repaired free of charge, significantly more than other types of vehicles. Hybrid cars are even more favorable in this regard, with 91% of failures resolved for free. The CEO of MotorEasy explained that electric vehicle failures are often related to specific issues such as tire punctures, battery drainage, and charging cable problems. This analysis comes at a time when data from the British Automobile Association showed that 40.6% of electric vehicles had to be towed due to breakdowns, compared to 29.6% of petrol vehicles.
