Repeat Elections in Kosjerić: Drama, Threats, and Tensions at the Polling Station

Repeat Elections in Kosjerić: Drama, Threats, and Tensions at the Polling Station!

In the small town of Kosjerić, where elections should be routine, a real political soap opera is unfolding. The local elections held on June 8 were annulled at one polling station – number 25 – due to irregularities that revealed serious problems in the electoral process. The court in Užice ruled on June 19 to accept the appeal of the “United Kosjerić” electoral list and annul the voting at that polling station.

Turnout and Tensions Turnout in the repeat elections varied – at 2 PM it was 59%, and by 4 PM it jumped to a whopping 70.5%! But it’s not all smooth sailing. Most hospitality venues in Kosjerić were closed, and tensions ran high. The head of the “We Won’t Give Up Serbia – Aleksandar Vučić” list, Žarko Đokić, was threatened by two men while driving down the street. One even opened the car door and threatened to harass his family after the elections! Luckily, a police officer was on the scene and prevented further incidents.

Results and the Fight for Power According to preliminary results, the “We Won’t Give Up Serbia – Aleksandar Vučić” list won 49.23% of the votes and 14 mandates, while the “United Kosjerić” list got 48.54% and 13 mandates. The third list, “Russian Party Serbia BRICS – Slobodan Nikolić,” received only 0.64% of the votes. The Kosjerić municipal assembly has 27 council seats, meaning the fight for power is extremely tight and every vote counts.

What’s Behind These Tensions? The annulment of voting at one polling station due to irregularities and threats against politicians point to serious problems in local democracy. Is this just the tip of the iceberg? Will the repeat elections bring peace or only deepen tensions?

Conclusion Kosjerić has become a place where elections don’t end on election day. With threats, annulments, and high turnout, local politics looks like a thriller scene. If you think elections are boring, think again – Kosjerić shows that even small towns can have big dramas.
