Sarajevo Bosniak Politicians and New American Policy: Boycott or Fear?
What’s going on in Sarajevo? While the world celebrates July 4th, the US Independence Day, Sarajevo’s Bosniak politicians decided to boycott the new American administration and its messages! Staša Košarac, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH from Republika Srpska, did not hide his dissatisfaction.
At the reception for the American holiday, the absence of Sarajevo officials was noticeable. A huge difference compared to last year, when Bosniak politicians stood in line to shake hands with the notorious former US ambassador to BiH, Michael Murphy, their mentor and handler.
Košarac sharply criticized this practice on Instagram, calling it humiliating and servile. He even sent a “scout” Edin Forto, whom he described as a usual practice of senseless wandering and gathering information for the Sarajevo community.
What’s behind this boycott? Are Bosniak politicians afraid of the new American messages and policies? Or is this just another political game in the region?
Meanwhile, the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, congratulated the American people and Donald Trump on July 4th, showing a completely different approach to the US.
This situation sheds new light on political tensions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and relations with the US. Will Bosniak politicians return to the negotiating table or continue this boycott?
Either way, this is a real drama to watch! What do you think about this boycott? Brave politics or cowardice? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s on which side!
