Hell in Padinska Skela: Prisoner Brutally Tortured and Killed While Staff Looked the Other Way!
Welcome to a Serbian prison where law and humanity apparently don’t matter! Stanimir Brajković, a 74-year-old retiree from Mladenovac, jailed for unpaid fines, died after being tortured and abused for days by fellow inmates — while the prison staff at Padinska Skela just ignored it all.
Who’s to Blame?
The trial for the prison employees was supposed to continue on September 19 but got postponed because one defendant’s lawyer didn’t show up. The accused include younger supervisor Slađan Kovačević, commanders Dušan Komazec, Stefan Pavlović, Zoran Krstić, and doctor Vesna Sredojević. They’re charged with negligence for ignoring the injuries Brajković suffered while being abused.
How Did This Tragedy Happen?
Brajković was subjected to daily violence by three inmates: Srećko Stefanović (21), Saša Stanković (21), and Dalibor Petrović (23). They beat him, slapped him, kicked him in the ribs and thighs, and two of them sexually abused him in horrific ways. He was forced to drink urine and coffee, beaten with wet towels, and had his tongue pulled out to stop him from complaining to commanders.
Why Didn’t Anyone Step In?
Out of fear, Brajković kept silent. After his death, the prison administration fired the former warden Vladimir Bukvić and 10 other employees for negligence. An internal inspection found Bukvić illegally and improperly managed the prison, leading to his suspension and disciplinary actions against 11 staff members.
What Does This Say About the System?
This isn’t just one man’s tragedy — it’s a massive scandal that stains the entire Serbian penal system. How can prison staff ignore such brutal abuse? Where was oversight? Where was humanity?
The Bottom Line
The death of Stanimir Brajković is a wake-up call. A system meant to protect and rehabilitate has become a place of horror and injustice. While the trial is delayed due to a missing lawyer, the family and public wait for answers and justice.
