Scorching Heat and Storms in Serbia: Are We Ready?
Brace yourselves, because Serbia is about to be hit by scorching heatwaves and possible storms! Meteorologist Ivan Ristić revealed on Kurir Television that we are facing a real heatwave with temperatures soaring up to 40 degrees Celsius. Yes, you read that right – 40 degrees!
Heat That Melts Asphalt
July is already the hottest and most humid month, and the African anticyclone, also known as the heat dome, is spreading from Spain, France, and England straight towards us. Temperatures in Spain are reaching 44 to 46 degrees, while England is struggling with 33 degrees. Here, on Thursday and Friday, thermometers will show between 35 and 40 degrees, with Leskovac and Ćuprija expecting a maximum of 40 degrees.
Relief or New Drama?
But don’t worry too much – relief is coming next week! Around July 8th, the African heat dome will retreat, and fresher, more humid air will enter Serbia through the Vienna gates. This means rain, thunderstorms, and even severe weather. However, meteorologists are still unsure if supercell storms, which cause real havoc, will appear. Temperatures will drop by 7 to 10 degrees, ranging between 28 and 33 degrees, which is a real relief after the scorching heat.
But Not For Long!
This relief will last only seven to eight days, because by the end of July and early August, the African anticyclone returns with a new heatwave. Temperatures are expected to reach around 40 degrees again, and August will be an even hotter and drier month. So get ready for another blazing month full of sun and drought.
How to Protect Yourself?
While meteorologists warn about these extreme weather conditions, it’s important for everyone to prepare. Wear light clothing, drink plenty of water, and avoid staying in the sun during the hottest parts of the day. Also, keep an eye on weather forecasts and be ready for possible storms and severe weather that may bring rain and thunder.
Conclusion
Serbia is on the brink of one of the hottest periods in recent years. With temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees and possible storms that could cause problems, the question is: are we really ready? Will city services and citizens manage to cope with these extremes? Or will we again see cracked asphalt and people seeking refuge in shade and air-conditioned spaces?
