Serbia and Haiti: When a Banana Republic Becomes Reality

Serbia and Haiti: When a Banana Republic Becomes Reality

Have you ever thought that Serbia and Haiti might have something in common? No? Well, maybe you should! While most people think these two countries are worlds apart, the reality is that Serbia is slowly but surely turning into something that resembles the chaos and lawlessness ruling Haiti.

Chaos and Lawlessness – Not Just in Haiti

Haiti is known as a country where complete chaos reigns. For years, the country has been in a state of absolute anarchy, where the government of Prime Minister Ariel Henry lacks legitimacy, and regular elections have not been held on time. The capital, Port-au-Prince, is controlled by gangs, mostly former police officers, while the police and government control only a small part of the city. Institutions do not exist, the rule of law is dead, and violence is a daily occurrence.

Serbia on the Path to the “Banana Era”

Officially, Serbia is not Haiti, but scenes on our streets and the political situation increasingly resemble a “banana republic.” Corruption, irregular elections, demands for resignations, protests over high prices and injustice – all sound like a scenario from some distant, unstable country, but unfortunately, it is our reality.

Parallels That Hurt

Bishop Grigorije clearly said: “Brutality against the innocent is not a sign of strength.” And that is exactly what we see – violence, arbitrariness, and irrationality of individuals destroying all elements of civilized society. The streets have become centers of power, and institutions have lost all significance. The official government controls only a part of the territory, while the rest of the country sinks into lawlessness and chaos.

What Awaits Us?

Will Serbia continue down the path leading to the complete collapse of society? Will we allow our country to become just another “banana republic”? Or will we wake up and start demanding responsibility, justice, and order? These are not questions for tomorrow but for today.

Conclusion

Serbia and Haiti may not be the same countries, but the similarities in chaos, lawlessness, and the collapse of institutions are terrifying. If we do not react, we may soon witness scenes that we have so far only seen on TV from distant, unstable countries.

Now, as you think about all this, take a look around and ask yourself – has our own “banana era” already begun? If you have your own opinion or a funny anecdote about our “country,” feel free to share it in the comments. Let the voice of the people be heard because if not us, then who?
