Vučić stated that blockades will not lead to political change and that he will not yield to pressure from hooligans. His words are harsh: “You cannot blackmail and get what you want!”
Mocking Sanitation Workers – A New Scandal
In Novi Sad, blockaders dumped trash on the streets and mocked sanitation workers who diligently cleaned up the mess behind them. Vučić called these workers heroes and condemned those who humiliate them. “You cannot defeat hardworking people, no matter how corrupt and disgusting you are!” the president said.
Political Messages and Accusations
Vučić called the blockades fascist politics and fascist phalanges, accusing demonstrators of harassing citizens and destroying property. On the other hand, the opposition and students claim this is a fight for basic rights and against a corrupt system. Srđan Milivojević from the Democratic Party announced he will submit a list of police officers who exceeded their authority to the EU.
Rising Temperatures and Paralyzed Traffic
In the midst of scorching heat up to 40 degrees Celsius, blockades have paralyzed traffic in major cities. Trams and trolleybuses have been pulled from service, and citizens are furious about the inability to move. Police are on the streets, but clashes continue.
