Government Declares State of Emergency Over Fires: Is Serbia Ready for a Fiery Apocalypse?

Ready for a fiery apocalypse? Serbia is burning, and the government has finally declared a state of emergency in five cities and 11 municipalities! Due to prolonged drought, extreme heat, and hurricane-force winds, massive fires ravaged parts of Serbia this July, leaving behind devastation and huge damage. But wait, it’s not all doom and gloom — the government has allocated millions of dinars for rebuilding burned homes. Is that enough? Was it ever enough?

Prime Minister Đuro Macut stepped up as the hero, praising firefighters, police, the army, and brave citizens who fought the blazing inferno. Over 2,000 firefighters and hundreds of civilians battled the fires using helicopters and special equipment. Thousands of properties and agricultural crops were saved, and most importantly — no human lives were lost. Kudos to them! But is that enough to forget that Serbia was literally on fire?

The government formed a republican emergency headquarters, including all relevant institutions from police to the Red Cross, to better prepare for future disasters. But is this just a reaction to catastrophe or real preparation for the future?

As Serbia fights the fiery beast, the question arises — are we as a society ready to face increasingly frequent climate disasters? Will the government keep investing in protection and rescue, or will we just wait for hell to break loose again before acting?

If you have thoughts on how Serbia can better prepare for such disasters, or if you’ve already experienced fires, drop a comment below. Let’s light up the discussion — but not the forest!
