Have you heard about the Serbian geniuses who crushed the competition at the International STEM Olympiad in Singapore? While Asian competitors are known for their academic achievements, our mathematicians left them in the dust! Serbia snagged a whopping eight medals, including a gold medal – the absolute winner of the competition, Jeliseveta Hadžipurić from the Mathematical Gymnasium.
The competition was no joke: 90 minutes to solve 30 problems demanding speed and precision. Dimitrije Jelić and Jeliseveta highlighted how fierce the competition was, mostly Asian participants known for their top-notch results. But our young science ambassadors proved that knowledge never goes out of style and that Serbia has a bright future in science.
Jeliseveta especially pointed out the problem of the low number of girls in such competitions and expressed her wish to motivate more girls to pursue mathematics. Her gold medal and title as the absolute winner prove that hard work and talent pay off.
This success is a real reason to celebrate and be proud, especially in times when young people often fall for various trends.
