Serbian Army in UN Peacekeeping Mission in Lebanon: Heroes or Cannon Fodder?

The Serbian Army is back on the front lines of peace in Lebanon! Are our soldiers true heroes or just cannon fodder in a faraway land? Since 2018, the Serbian contingent has tirelessly guarded peace in the East sector, and now they’re sending another infantry company from the First Land Brigade. Before deployment, they underwent months of intense training and preparation because, let’s face it, being part of a UN mission in the Middle East is no joke.

But wait, there’s more! Besides the East sector, a Serbian Army platoon is already deployed in the West sector, protecting peacekeeping forces. Our guys are everywhere, like the main attraction in this peacekeeping circus.

The send-off ceremony took place at the Bačka barracks in Bačka Topola, attended by representatives of the General Staff, local authorities, religious communities, relatives, and friends. Sounds like a big parade, but the real story is what our soldiers are doing there and how dangerous it really is.

Imagine, our people are in a country that has been in chaos for decades, where conflicts and tensions never subside. Their mission? To keep the peace! But how? With guns in hand, on the edge of conflict, while the world watches and stays silent.

And while they boast that our soldiers successfully completed all tasks in the past six months, the question arises — how safe is it really? How humane is it? And why is Serbia sending its people into a foreign war zone under the UN flag?

Of course, the army is the pride of the nation, but is this pride or just another political game? While our soldiers fight for peace in Lebanon, at home we wonder — who takes care of them? Who guarantees their safety? And what if something happens?

In a world where conflicts don’t end and peacekeeping missions often look like traps, Serbia and its army are on the front line. Are our soldiers heroes or just cannon fodder? Drop a comment, share your thoughts — is this bravery or madness? Maybe it’s time to ask what it really means to be a peacekeeper in the 21st century.

And hey, if you have a good joke about peacekeeping missions, share it — laughter is sometimes the best medicine, even in the toughest times.
