Serbian Nun at Tompson Concert: Shock and Outrage Across the Region!
Picture this: tens of thousands of people at Marko Perković Tompson’s concert at Zagreb Hippodrome, and among them – a Serbian nun, Cecilija Tomkić from Sremska Mitrovica! Yes, you read that right. A nun, known for her long-standing cultural work and teaching at a music school, decided to attend one of the most controversial concerts in the region. And it did not go unnoticed.
Her statement on camera: “Let them see, there are many of us, stronger together!” exploded like a bomb. Was this a thoughtless move or a deliberate political message? Who is Sister Cecilija? Born in Janjevo, a former enclave of Kosovo Croats, she has lived and worked in Sremska Mitrovica for over 20 years. She teaches piano, leads church choirs, organizes music festivals and competitions. She is a recipient of the Golden Badge of Serbian Culture, and her Sirmium Music Fest has received support from local authorities for years.
However, her presence at Tompson’s concert, whose performances are often linked to chauvinism and Ustaša symbolism, shocked many. Her colleagues at the music school were stunned. “She’s not a Croat in the classical sense, but she is Catholic and from Janjevo,” they say. Still, the message she sent did not go without reaction – many see her as a symbol of division rather than coexistence.
A professor from Banja Luka sharply commented: “She organizes competitions and receives state and local funding, yet appears at a concert of a singer whose shows promote exclusivity and historical revisionism. It’s dilettantism and a misunderstanding of faith.”
Was Cecilija’s move a mistake or a brave gesture? Is this a sign that old bridges of culture and coexistence are crumbling? Or just a woman who loves music and big gatherings? One thing is certain – this story won’t be forgotten.
What do you think about a nun at Tompson’s concert? Is this the start of a new division or just an accidental slip? Drop a comment, let’s see who’s for and who’s against!
