Tragedy in Podgorica: Two Young Lives Lost Due to Reckless Driver!
Is justice truly served? At the very end of 2021, on December 31st, a devastating traffic accident shook Podgorica and the entire country. Jovan Dubljević, 21, caused a crash that claimed the lives of two young men – 17-year-old Filip Vučeljić and Andrija Novaković.
Recklessness on the Road That Cost Lives
Dubljević was driving a Golf at a speed well above the limit, ran a red light, and collided with a Honda Civic driven by Filip Vučeljić. Filip died on the spot, while his passenger Andrija succumbed to injuries days later at the Clinical Center of Montenegro. A third person, Edin Kerović, suffered serious injuries.
Court Proceedings and a Shocking Sentence
The appellate court hearing was postponed today because the accused did not appear. The court found that Dubljević was aware of his recklessness and acted with eventual intent – he knew the accident could happen but recklessly assumed it wouldn’t.
However, the court considered mitigating factors: Dubljević was a minor (19 years old) at the time, had no prior convictions, and expressed remorse. Aggravating factors included the excessive speed (over 60 km/h) and the fact that two people died and one was seriously injured.
Families’ Lawyer: The Sentence is Ridiculously Light
The lawyer representing the victims’ families, Dragoljub Petrović, bluntly stated that the sentence is too lenient. “When you consider that two young lives were lost, it’s clear. I don’t believe this sentence will make other drivers more cautious,” he said.
