Solidarity in Serbia: Is Our Social Cohesion on the Brink of Collapse?

Solidarity is the glue that holds society together, but in Serbia today, that bond is cracking under the pressure of neoliberal individualism and social fragmentation. Once, ordinary people spontaneously helped each other in the toughest times — from anti-fascist resistance to NATO bombings and floods — today, solidarity is melting like snow in the sun. Cultural spaces are closing, youth are fleeing, and trust in institutions is at rock bottom. But not all is lost! Students, activists, and ordinary citizens still show that the spark of solidarity is alive — baking pastries, bringing medicines, cooking stews, and doing it not for politics but for pure humanity. Yet, the question remains: will we let the culture of solidarity become just a nostalgic memory? Will we allow neoliberal selfishness to tear us apart? If you care about Serbia, maybe it’s time to ask yourself — where is your solidarity today? And if you think this is just another boring story, remember next time you wait for the elevator or see someone in need — solidarity is not just a word, it’s a practice. And hey, if you have a good story about solidarity, or maybe a funny example of how solidarity in Serbia totally flopped, drop a comment below — let’s laugh or spark a debate!
