Spain Shows Once Again Who Rules Water Polo!
Montenegro dreamed big, but reality hit hard! After 12 years, the Spanish water polo powerhouse crushed the resistance of our sharks and stopped them in the quarterfinals of the World Championship in Singapore. Yes, you read that right – quarterfinals! Although our team, led by Dejan Savić, started strong with an excellent first quarter where they led three times, Spain showed why they are a global giant.
Bernat Sanauža, the Barcelona player, was a nightmare for Montenegro’s defense. By halftime, he had scored four goals, and our players had no answer to his precision and power. The Spanish pressing kept our players far from the goal, and most shots came from a distance, which was not enough to break through the Fury’s defense.
In the second half, concentration dropped, and it became clear that Montenegro would play for fifth to eighth place, while Spain would fight for medals. Unfortunately, our team scored only 19 goals, far below expectations and the real image of Montenegrin water polo, which has stagnated at the top for nearly a decade without making that crucial step forward.

Because Montenegro has been synonymous with water polo quality and fighting spirit for years. But now, when it was time to confirm their status, they got a cold shower. Spain routinely broke their resistance, and our players were left without strength and ideas. Captain Tešanović was brilliant in goal, saving several shots, but it wasn’t enough.
