Srem is burning like never before! In just the last 24 hours, firefighters responded to 21 incidents, 20 of which were wildfires. Yes, you read that right — twenty! And what’s even worse, four buildings have been lost to the flames: two auxiliary buildings, one barn, and one warehouse. This was confirmed by the emergency department in Sremska Mitrovica. As temperatures soar and drought persists, firefighters are battling fiercely, but human carelessness and intentional arson continue to wreak havoc.
Fire chief Vladimir Drmanović warns that the human factor is the main culprit behind these disasters. We’re not just losing property; lives are at risk. Across Serbia, during the same period, there have been 40 wildfires with tragic consequences — one person has died, 14 injured, and firefighters have rescued two people.
The Emergency Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced increased inspections and strict penalties for irresponsible citizens. Burning dry grass, low vegetation, and waste in open areas is strictly forbidden as it poses a serious threat to life, property, and the environment.
If you see a fire, don’t hesitate — call the firefighters immediately! Every spark in these hellish conditions can turn into a catastrophe. Responsibility lies with each of us because fire doesn’t forgive. And if you think this is just another heatwave, think again — this is a wake-up call!
As we fight this fiery disaster, maybe it’s time to ask ourselves: how many more catastrophes do we need to wake up? Or will we keep watching the land burn beneath our feet? Share your thoughts — maybe your story or comment will be the spark that puts out the next fire, both literally and figuratively!
