Serbian Medieval Monasteries on the Brink of Destruction: Exhibition in Bratislava Sounds the Alarm!
Did you know that our medieval monasteries, the jewels of Serbian culture and spirituality, are literally hanging by a thread? Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković opened an exhibition in Bratislava titled “Serbian Medieval Monasteries in Danger.” This exhibition is not just another cultural event – it’s a wake-up call to the whole world!
The exhibition was organized to mark the 20th anniversary of the Visoki Dečani Monastery’s inscription on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. But instead of celebrating, we face the harsh reality that these monasteries are under threat. Selaković emphasized that the exhibition has already been shown in Paris, Bucharest, and now Slovakia, where it holds special significance due to the closeness of the two cultures.
Why are the monasteries endangered? There are many reasons: political tensions, neglect, insufficient protection, and even direct threats. These monasteries are not just religious buildings; they are symbols of identity and history for the Serbian people. Their fate is the fate of our culture.
This exhibition is a call to action – to not turn a blind eye to the problems but to act immediately. If we allow these gems of medieval architecture to decay, what will we leave for future generations? Just dust and oblivion?
In a world where cultural heritage is often used as a political tool, Serbia must stand firm and clearly say: our monasteries are sacred! And not only that – international support and concrete protective measures are needed.
If you care about history, faith, and culture, it’s time to get involved. Don’t let future generations ask where our monasteries disappeared to. And you, what do you think – who is to blame for this danger? Is the government doing enough? Or is it all just a show for the public?
Share your thoughts, because this is not just a story about stone and frescoes – it’s a story about ourselves.
