Kragujevac has declared a state of emergency due to scorching heat and numerous fires ravaging the city and its surroundings. The city’s emergency headquarters made this decision to effectively tackle the real threat posed by high temperatures and fires. Just yesterday, several fires broke out around Kragujevac, injuring three people, destroying 15 houses and two production facilities, and burning tens of hectares of grass and small vegetation. Firefighters, aided by other services and municipal companies, managed to suppress the flames, but the damage is massive.
This situation is not just a wake-up call for Kragujevac but for the whole of Serbia, as extreme weather conditions become more frequent. The mayor and the city emergency team will continue to coordinate activities and regularly inform the public about all important details related to protection and rescue. If you think heatwaves are just an annoyance, think again — they have become a danger that can destroy homes and lives.
While Kragujevac battles the fiery disaster, other parts of the country also feel the effects of climate change. This state of emergency is a clear sign that serious measures and preparations for future challenges are overdue. So, what do you think — are we ready for these hellish conditions, or will we wait again to be caught off guard by fire and heat? Drop a comment, maybe your idea will save the day next time!
