On Thursday afternoon, Austria was hit by an unprecedented storm bringing thunder, heavy rains, and hail. Around 10,000 households in the Styria region lost power due to hurricane-force winds reaching speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour. The central part of Graz was especially hard hit, and numerous festivals in Upper and Lower Austria were canceled. Tyrol was one of the hardest-hit areas, with firefighters conducting many operations to extinguish fires caused by lightning strikes. Floods were reported in Innsbruck, and one church was flooded. A man was seriously injured while riding a motorcycle and was hospitalized. Emergency services had to clear fallen trees, and there were disruptions in rail traffic. At one point, lightning struck a family house, causing a fire on the facade. The RHMZ issued an urgent warning for Serbia about three dangerous weather phenomena expected.
