Student Protests and Arrests in Belgrade: Police Brutality and Blockades in Zemun

Belgrade is on fire again with student protests! After students faced brutal police violence yesterday, today the main street in Zemun was blocked in protest against the arrest of their comrades. Students from the Faculty of Agriculture and other Belgrade faculties called on citizens to join the fight against repression. Demonstrators gathered in front of the faculty and then blocked the main street in Zemun, clearly signaling they won’t stop until the arrested students are freed.

Yesterday, we witnessed scenes reminiscent of the worst days of police brutality: students were beaten unconscious, ambulances were not allowed to provide aid, and a large number of people were arrested. Among them were students from the Faculty of Organizational Sciences and the Veterinary Faculty, who immediately announced new protests and support for their colleagues. One of the arrested students will be interrogated on Monday, while across Serbia, six people have been detained on suspicion of preparing an attack on state institutions.

This situation is explosive and clearly shows how tense the country is. Students are not giving up, and the authorities respond with repression and arrests. Will this escalate into a bigger conflict, or will the government finally listen to the youth? The Zemun blockade is just the beginning, and Belgrade is burning with discontent. If you think this is the end, you’re wrong — this is just the start of the fight for justice and freedom. And you, dear readers, what do you think about all this? Has the police gone too far, or are the students provoking too much? Drop a comment, let your voice be heard!
