Imagine this: a student theater troupe, directed by Dragan Koprivica, decided to perform a political satire play right inside a women’s prison in Spuž! Yes, you read that right. This play, which has already toured several stages across Montenegro—from Podgorica to Bijelo Polje—is now set to be performed for inmates, with full support from the prison administration and director Darko Vukčević.
The play is a sharp, witty comedy exposing the changing of political generations and the expectations of citizens. The lead roles are played by two professors from Nikšić, who are sisters—Tijana Rada Draganić. The rest of the cast includes Darko Bulić, Danijela Šundić, Zdenka Živković, and others who have already won awards at Montenegro’s amateur drama festivals.
The premiere was on May 27 at the KIC Budo Tomović in Podgorica, and the play has since been performed seven times in various cities and institutions, including nursing homes. It’s no surprise that the premiere was recorded and broadcast on the public TV channel TVCG. Upcoming plans include humanitarian performances across Montenegro and neighboring countries.
This isn’t just entertainment—it’s a brutal critique of the political scene, delivered through satire and humor, which is rare in today’s theater. And where better to stage it than in a women’s prison, a place where the consequences of social and political decisions are felt most keenly?
If you think politics is boring and distant from reality, this play will prove you wrong. And if you’ve already seen it, you know it’s an absolute blast!
